Tip Of The Day – 96 Mirrors
Modelling Tip Of The Day – 96
This Modelling Tip Of The Day is an ongoing series, in which we’ll be posting a modelling tip that may be of use to the newbie right up to the seasoned modeller. Today’s tip is:
Today’s Tip is ‘Mirrors’. To create the effect of a road or railway tracks extending beyond the edge of the layout, use a mirror. Carefully positioning a mirror can trick & fool the viewer into thinking that scenery continues further than it does. As can be seen in the feature photo for this article. The mirror has been carefully positioned so that it doesn’t reflect back the viewer but only reflects back the road. This looks like the road runs around the corner when in reality the road ends halfway around the curve.
In the diagram above, shows another use for the mirror. This time set into a low relief bridge, thus giving the impression the railway line goes on beyond the backscene & the low relief bridge. Ideal use is for end to end layouts where you can create the impression that the track continues beyond the ends of a layout.
