Modelling Tip Of The Day – 56

This Modelling Tip Of The Day is an ongoing series, in which we’ll be posting a modelling tip that may be of use to the newbie right up to the seasoned modeller. Today’s tip is:

Loco Nameplates

Fitting brass etched loco nameplates can be a bit off-putting for some modellers for fear of getting glue damage on a model. Another way around this is to use Deluxe Materials Taxy Wax. Taxy Wax allows items to be firmly held in place without damage to a model. Simply apply a small amount of tacky wax to the back of a nameplate & then place the nameplate onto the model. The nameplate can be removed at any time without damage to the model.

Alternatively, use double-sided sticky tape. Measure & cut to the same size as the nameplate, remove the backing tape & stick on to the nameplate. Then remove the backing tape from the other side & then stick your nameplate to the loco.

If glueing the nameplate, lightly key the back of the nameplate with a small file. Apply a small thin amount of glue on to the area you’ve just keyed on the rear of the nameplate. For the glue, I use Bostick All Purpose Gel Glue. If any glue seeps out from the edge of the nameplate, it can be quickly removed without causing any damage using a cocktail stick or a fine tip pair of Tweezers.
